Western Belize Mini Itinerary

San Ignacio Mini Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival, Culture & Sunset Views

Morning: Explore the Local Culture & Market

Kick off your adventure with a visit to the San Ignacio Farmers Market, one of the most lively and colorful markets in Belize. Here, you’ll find fresh tropical fruits, handmade crafts, and traditional Belizean street food. Grab a plate of fry jacks with refried beans and eggs or a hearty serving of stew chicken with rice and beans from a local vendor. (Saturdays is our official Farmer’s Market Day)

After breakfast, take a short walk to Ajaw Chocolate & Crafts, where you can learn about Belize’s ancient Maya chocolate-making traditions and even try grinding cacao beans yourself.

Afternoon: Cahal Pech Maya Ruins & Relaxation

Next, make your way to the Cahal Pech Maya Ruins, a smaller but significant archaeological site that once housed Maya royalty. Climb to the top of the temples for panoramic views of San Ignacio.

After exploring, return to your hotel for a refreshing swim in our newly constructed pool. Enjoy the afternoon sun, sip on a cold Belikin beer, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Evening: Dinner & Nightlife

For dinner, head to Guava Limb Café, known for its fusion of international and Belizean flavors. Try their Caribbean shrimp pasta or their coconut-crusted snapper.

End the night at The Burnz, a great place offering great views, craft cocktails, and a lively atmosphere. If you’re in the mood for dancing, check out Tequila Nightclub, where live music keeps the night alive OR if you happen to be in town on Friday’s and enjoy Karaoke; stopping by at Trins is the place to sing to your soul’s content.

Day 2: Ancient Wonders & Jungle Adventures

Morning: Xunantunich Maya Ruins

Start your day early with a visit to Xunantunich, one of Belize’s most famous Maya sites. Cross the hand-cranked ferry over the Mopan River and climb the towering El Castillo pyramid, offering breathtaking views of Guatemala and the surrounding jungle.

Afternoon: Barton Creek Cave Canoeing or Big Rock Falls

After Xunantunich, take your pick between two amazing adventures:

  • Barton Creek Cave Canoeing: Paddle through an ancient Maya ceremonial cave system filled with impressive stalactites and archaeological remains.

  • Big Rock Falls: If you prefer a more relaxing nature experience, head to Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Big Rock Falls.

Evening: Local Dining & Riverside Relaxation

After a long day, unwind at Erva’s Restaurant, a local favorite serving up delicious Belizean Creole dishes like curry goat, grilled snapper, and shrimp coconut stew.

For a peaceful end to the day, take a leisurely riverside stroll along the Macal River or grab a nightcap at Crave House of Flavour, known for its exquisite cocktails and relaxed ambiance.

Day 3: Adventure & Leisure in Santa Elena

Morning: ATM Cave Tour or Green Iguana Conservation Project

For thrill-seekers, embark on the legendary Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave Tour, an unforgettable experience exploring an ancient Maya ceremonial cave with skeleton remains, pottery, and crystal formations. This tour requires swimming and climbing, so it’s ideal for those seeking adventure.

For a more laid-back morning, visit the Green Iguana Conservation Project at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, where you can interact with and even feed Belize’s iconic green iguanas.

Afternoon: Lunch & Poolside Relaxation

Have lunch at Hode’s Place, a casual Belizean eatery loved by locals. Try their BBQ chicken, plantain chips, and fresh watermelon juice. Afterward, spend your final afternoon in San Ignacio lounging by our newly constructed pool, soaking up the last bit of sun before your departure.

Evening: Sunset Views & Farewell Dinner

End your trip with a scenic dinner at The View Restaurant & Bar, offering an elevated dining experience with breathtaking sunset views over the hills. Order their grilled lobster or rack of lamb, paired with a glass of Belizean rum punch.

For those who still have energy left, stop by Hode’s or Tandoor & Lounge for a fun last night in town.
