How To Get To Us In San Ignacio

Where is Hilltop Horizon Guesthouse

A short guide on how to locate our little getaway.

We’ve had a few guest ask us “how do I get to Hilltop Horizon Guesthouse?” We are always pleased to help find us and it gave me the idea to create a small guide so I can help travelers find our little haven.

Arriving in San Ignacio is part of the adventure when exploring Western Belize. Finding us is the next one haha Nestled on top of the hill in San Ignacio, we are located in the intersection of Vaca & 18th Street.

Traveling along the main highway, Benque Viejo Road, you’ll come across a clinic named “Sonocent Clinic” that is directly beside “La Sante” Pharmacy. In between these two you’ll see a concrete road, 18th street. We are down that street at the first right. It won’t take long before you our top floor peek at you. Walk down the all-weather road and you’ll see an orange gate, that’s our entrance.

How to get to Hilltop Horizon Guesthouse from Belize City.

Belize City becomes the central point for anyone coming from Northern Belize and the islands through public transport. There are three main ways to get to us from Belize City.

I’ll start off by naming the main one by guests coming through the international airport.

1.) Rent a car, open google maps and set the pin.

Obviously, i’m only slightly kidding by being so blunt haha but you can rent a car from a trusted dealer in Belize City or Airport and locate us on google map or send us a message at +5016011099 requesting a location pin. We currently don’t have parking but you can park your car along the street in front of us, its safe we have security cameras.

2.) Getting a shared shuttle service from Belize City to San Ignacio.

This is the most common method that we have found our guests use to get to us from Belize City as many of them come from the cayes. We work closely with a company named Belize Caving Expedition which provide shared shuttle service for a standard price of $20 USD per person. Their meet up point is at the San Pedro Water Taxi Terminal along N Front Street. The benefit for taking this service is that they already know us and drop you off directly at our accommodation. They accept both cash and credit card and takes 2-2.5 hrs.

If you need assistance reserving a shuttle from Belize City to our accommodation send us an email or a whatsapp to +5016011099 with subject “shuttle from Belize to HTOP”

3.) Taking the public bus.

Yes, you can the public bus from Belize City and reach us with ease. Once you have made your way to the terminal in Belize City, you’ll first want to buy yourself a ticket to San Ignacio. The bus that travel west will have Belmopan/Benque on their signs. Make sure to be first in line to get a seat because depending on the time of day these buses can get very packed. Once your in you should expect to arrive in San Ignacio around 2.5-3 hrs. You’ll arrive San Ignacio through our low lying bridge and the first stop in town will be at The Welcome Centre. The conductor will yell “San Ignacio”. NOTE that you don’t have to come out here unless you want to grab a bite in town or don’t mind walking up the hill. We are named Hilltop Horizon Guesthouse for a reason as we are located on top of the San Ignacio Hill.

What you do to save you from the walk is to move to a seat closer to the door and let the conductor know you will come out at “La Sante Pharmacy” OR ” Sonocent Clinic”. They will know where at least one of them is. We are located directly behind these facilities.

How To Get To Hilltop Horizon Guesthouse From Southern Belize

If you’re finding yourself to our accommodation from Southern Belize there are three ways to do so. These are quite similar to Belize City except for the fact that there are little to no shared shuttle from Southern Belize as far as I’ve found. It’s only economically beneficial as a group.

Placencia & PG –

Getting a bus from Placencia & PG isn’t that difficult. We would suggest taking the Floralia bus as its an express bus that leaves from PG and enters Placencia then takes you directly to the Belmopan terminal where you can get a bus to San Ignacio.

You can find the bus schedule

  !!HERE!!

HOPKINS-

Coming from Hopkins becomes a bit more challenging but nothing to worry about. You can take a private shuttle or the public bus if you don’t have a rental. Always feel free to contact us for assistance with shuttles, we’re happy to help.

If you want to take the public bus there are two that leave Hopkins to Dangriga and from Dangriga to Belmopan. You can ask a local or your accommodation for the specific time. If you want to take it from the junction you will need to get a ride or a cab to the Hopkins junction and wait for a bus to pass. Once in the public bus come out at the Belmopan Bus Terminal and take the bus that says “BENQUE” from there you can tell the conductor you will stop in San Ignacio. Remember once you get to San Ignacio you don’t have to come out at the welcome centre you can come out closer to our accommodation located behind SONOCENT CLINIC.

Getting To Hilltop Horizon Guesthouse from Flores

We’ve noticed majority of our guests get to our place from Flores through a shuttle. The shuttle from Flores to our place is $20 USD per person. They take both cash and card. We work closely with Belize Caving Expedition. There pick up point is at the “I LOVE PETEN” sign and leave at 6 am. Your arrival time to our accommodation is approximately between 9 am – 10 am.

If you need any assistance booking a shuttle from Flores don’t hesitate to reach out to us 🙂
